Apply Homestead Exemption By March 31st, 2010

Do you know that you could save more than $200 off your property taxes annually? A homestead exemption is an exemption that allows homeowners a reduction in their property taxes. Currently, the homestead exemption in Fulton County reduces the taxable value of a home by $15,000, resulting in a tax savings of more than $200 annually.

If you bought a property in 2009 or earlier that you are using as your permanent residence, you are qualified for the exemption. To get the benefit, you must apply for this exemption on or before March 1st (for most counties) at your county's tax office.  Once granted, this exemption is automatically renewed each year as long as you continuously occupy the property under the same ownership.
